Due to recent experiences i thought i would give everyone a bit more information about what this actually means:
First: here is a video to watch to see it first hand: Slipped Disc Example
A slipped disc is also called a herniated disc.
Some dogs are more prone to this happening – normally it is dogs with longer backs and shorter legs.
Here are some symptoms to look out for:
- neck pain
- back pain
- struggle to move
- “wobbly legs”
- dragging paws
- paralysis
Causes:
- jumping from high surfaces
- Being hit or dropped from a height
Dogs who are more prone:
- Dachshunds
- Pekingese
- Beagles
- Spaniels
- Corgis
- Basset hounds
- Labradors
- German shepherds
If your dog shows absolutely any of these symptoms take them to the vet immediately.
Also make sure that you restrict all movement and keep your dog rested.
Follow all instructions given to you by the vet and administer the medication accordingly.
If the medication doesn’t help your dog you will have to consider surgery.
