Cancer In Dogs

They say 1 in 3 dogs develop cancer.

Cancer can occur in both purebred and mixed breed dogs

Cancer can occur at any age – but mostly it happens in older dogs

So what is Cancer?

It is a disease where the cells grow out of control. They go where they shouldn’t, and they spread.

Cancer can be in one area – or it can be in several areas in the body

There is no said cause for Cancer either – it is presumed to be mostly hereditary

Here is a list of Cancers which dogs can get:

  • Hemangiosarcoma
  • Lymphoma
  • Malignant Histiocytosis
  • Mammary Cancer
  • Mast Cell Tumors
  • Melanoma
  • Osteosarcoma
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Transitional Cell Carcinoma

It is important to catch the cancer early to give your dog the best treatments:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Surgery
  • Radiation

Its important to check for lumps on your dog – your dog is normally not bothered by this lump. And this lump doesn’t mean your dog DOES have cancer – but it is best to get it checked.

SYMPTOMS

  • Sores don’t heal
  • Weight loss
  • Appetite loss
  • Struggling to go to the toilet
  • Unwilling to exercise
  • Bleeding of any sort

Having your dog spayed or neutered at an early age can help prevent your dog from developing Cancer

A healthy diet and nutrition will also help keep your dog healthy 🙂
