French Bulldog
These dogs are said to have originated from England. They say they are from the English Bulldog.
This breed are affectionate, and loving companions. They may be hard to housebreak, but other than that they are great pets for first time owners.
An awesome thing about these dogs is that they don’t mind small spaces, so they work well in small apartments, and they are not big barkers either.
These dogs cant swim – so if you have a pool at home please watch that they stay away from the water.
This is due to their body build as well as their head shape.
These dogs don’t do well with flying either – because of their face being flat (known as brachycephalic)
Because of this, a lot of airlines actually banned these dogs from flying on their planes. You get special planes which are used to fly dogs to their desired destination. There is always someone on board to make sure everything runs smoothly – they will also have first aid experience in-case of emergencies.
As mentioned, these dogs are not prone to barking, but they do in fact love to “talk”.
All that this means is that your dog will make all sorts of sounds to try reach out to you – and on occasion they might try sing along with you.
These dogs are very sensitive, so when it comes to discipline these dogs are best dealt with with positive reinforcement or encouragement. If you shout at them, they are known to sulk.
These dogs have two different ear shapes as well – there is the rose shaped type which was preferred by the English breeders as it was more similar to the English bulldog. And then there is the bat shaped ears as well.
An interesting fact when it comes to these dogs is that most of their puppies are born through artificial insemination. This does make the puppies a bit more expensive. But the only reason for this is that the male bulldog seems to have a hard time mating, they get hot very quickly, and they sometimes even struggle to reach.
These dogs grow to a height of about 30cm.
They generally weigh approximately 9-10KG in the females. And generally 10-13KG in males.
With a life span of about 11-14 years.
If you are considering this breed, be sure to be prepared to have this dog at your side at all times. They don’t like to be alone, and they are definitely inside dogs. These dogs are generally good with everyone, even children. Though, it is still best to socialize these dogs at a young age as some of them may be prone to show possessive traits when it comes to protecting their human. These dogs have a real sense of humour, and can be very naughty.
Because these dogs aren’t prone to just bark at anything, they can be good watch dogs – as they will always bark for a reason.
One last thing to remember, is that these dogs don’t like the heat – so be sure not to leave them outside in the sun all day. These dogs are very prone to heat exhaustion.
Go out and adopt a French Bulldog now! 🙂
