A story of How I Obtained The 7 Little Rascals That I Call My Babies

Nicky is my only female dog out of the 3 that I had before the pups. She’s one of the smarter dogs that I have ever come across and is oh so loving. Nicky got pregnant a while back from our neighbors Jack Russel Mix across the road.

On the 12th Feb 2016 Nicky gave birth to what I thought would be 4 or 5 pups…until later that evening I came to check and saw 6. As I stood there in shock on the 6 pups, I saw a tiny little head pop around the back of Nicky and there was the 7th and the last pup.

7 Healthy pups were delivered to a very tiny Nicky, was overwhelming to think that she could have so many. Nicky gave birth to 6 white and black spotted pups and 1 brown pup like herself. 6 Males and 1 Female. We had 3 tiny pups which was a concern as you know they say that in every litter 1 pup would die.

The struggle of Nicky laying down for the pups to drink began that week she gave birth and I found it frustrating and heartbreaking. She was making milk but she wasn’t laying down for the pups. So I decided to bottle feed the  smallest to get them stronger. It took 3 long, frustrating, forceful nights to get the pups to latch on the teat for the bottle. Eventually they began to latch, much to my relief.

.
Slowly but surely I watched these new born pups grow into these 4week old pups with there eyes open and crawling ever so slowly. Bottle feeding them was a mission as you can imagine but Nicky would come in and sit by me and allow the other pups to feed as I fed the 3 smallest.

 .
Weeks have gone by and the pups are now 8weeks old, running around, eating solid food, playing and ready for homes. We have decided to keep the 2 smallest as my father has named the only brown pup Mr. Willus and the other is Stevie (we thought he was blind, turns out he is just weird).

They all have homes and will be leaving us soon. My best friend has received the biggest one out of the 7. Nicky is not happy as I can hear her crying as we take the pups away from her. This was my first litter of pups which happened by mistake but never have I thought that I would get so attached the small faces, paws and puppy breath.
