Afghan Hound Dog

This dog has thing appearance, with a silky coat and an exotic face.

This dog is known to be a distant dog, and not the friendliest breed. They are also known to be unsociable

They say these dogs live between 10 and 12 years

With a weight of 23 – 27KGs

These dogs were bread to hunt in Afghanistan. And their long coat helped keep them warm.

These dogs are able to run long distances and with a speed.

They were said to keep dangerous accidents like a leopard distracted until their human came along.

These dogs as puppies want attention like any puppy does, but unfortunately as they mature – these dogs don’t seek human attention and prefer to be left alone

So them being petted will be on their terms – not yours

These dogs can be mischievous, and steal things from under their owners faces.

Their nickname is called “clown” sometimes.

Necessary things to know

  • Grooming is a MUST
  • They hunt naturally. So remember this means that you might find they chase your cat when you are not paying attention
  • House training and general training is known to be difficult – they are also known to not be motivated by food so this doesn’t help!
  • These dogs have a very low pain tolerance
  • You need to be gentle with this breed – if you are rough with them they tend to be hostile towards you
  • Not bad with kids, but it is said that your kids should grow up with this dog – especially to understand how the dog is by nature. Saying this it is better to have these dogs with older kids or adults. Kids are known to startle the dogs, so unless brought up with them from a young age it isn’t the best idea
  • Because they are not a friendly breed they won’t be eager when your guests arrive
  • Escape artist – remember they run faster than a horse
  • These dogs need 2-2 and a half cups of dry food a day in two doses
  • Trim their nails once a month at least if your dog doesn’t wear them down naturally – if you hear the noise on the floor then they are to long
  • Brush their teeth two – three times a week to avoid tartar build up
  • Get your dog used to being brushed when they are still a puppy

Often these dogs are bought without people knowing how they are. So please pass the message on so that the right person adopts or buys this dog. 🙂
