Does My Dog Watch TV?

.

A funny thing, the other day My Mom and Dad were watching a horror movie in the lounge – and out of nowhere you hear my puppy start barking. Turns out she was barking at the movie, she didn’t like what was happening there – at all!

.

So this raises an important question… Does my dog actually see what we see on the TV? Do they react to it?

.

BACK IN THE DAYS – and for some older people with OLDER TVs – these TV’s are basically made up of flickering images which our human eyes pick up as a continuous pattern. Whereas with a dog, they see differently to us. This means that the dog will pick up that there are flashing images.

.

Dogs are far-sighted. So what this means is that things up close will be relatively blurry to them. They see movement much better too – so if something is far away they see it better.

.

It is known that a dog can see yellow and blue, which means that what they see will look different to what a human sees as a human has a full range of colours.

.

They do say that your dog will recognize a dogs bark from the TV and be able to recognize a picture of a dog on the TV.

.

DOG TV

This is a program in the US especially designed for your dogs!!

They have three types of shows on here – relaxation, stimulation and exposure

.

So if you wonder whether your dog likes the TV – It could be that they are picking up frequencies that we cant hear which cause them to stare at the TV, or maybe they noticed the dog that came on the screen, or maybe your dog comes to “watch TV” when they are actually just joining you on the couch to relax and get some love. If your dog breed is more of a visual dog, chances are they will be more affected by the TV than a dog who relies more on their hearing and sense of smell.
