How Often Should My Dog Go To The Toilet
Urination
- They say any dog needs to go to the toilet at last every 8-12 hours.
- That means at least two to three times a day
- Remember puppies still learning how to hold their bladder, and older dogs will need to go to the toilet more often
It is possible your dog to have something call bladder incompetence – this means the dog has no control over when they go to the toilet. This is known to happen in older dogs, as well as dogs who are overweight. Dogs who get this are also prone to bladder infections.
Poo – Number two
- This should happen at least once a day
- Your dog may go more often depending what you feed them. Cheaper foods lead to more toilet time
- If you feed your dog at the same time everyday, you may find that their bowel movements will be roughly the same time everyday too. (this will be great to try and do especially if your pup lives in a apartment.
Constipation
- To see if your dog is suffering from this common problem, you would have to watch their actions… This is obviously because your dog can’t tell you how he is feeling. So you will have to see and monitor their behavior.
Remember a few important things – If your dog is going to the toilet to often, look to see if their stools are too soft and maybe contain blood in them. This could mean your dog has a medical issue and should be checked by a vet. Also, make sure you De-worm your dog.
Also please remember that if you are walking your dog in a public area – to take with a plastic bag to clean up after your pup.
