lundehund

Norwegian Lundehund

This dog amazes me

Did you know, this dog has six toes on each front foot?

Each toe unlike other dogs is triple jointed not double jointed, and the sixth toe is a lot like the human thumb in shape

This dog’s neck can bend backwards till the spine – which allows them to get into small spaces for hunting

Their shoulders are also flexible.

Their ears close both from the front and from the back

These dogs are normally tan /red in colour and sometimes have black tips

They weigh around 15 pounds and grow to about 12-15 inches

This dog doesn’t have aggressive tendencies, so it makes them great companions.

If your dog hasn’t grown up around people they may be shy. But they still won’t show any aggression.

This dog is known to live roughly 12 years.

This dog is known to get Lundehund Syndrome – this is when the dogs digestive tracks doesn’t function properly, meaning the body isn’t absorbing the correct nutrients. So the dogs who get this, won’t live as long.

There are not many of these dogs left.

There are a few breeders keeping the breed alive, but still the numbers are few.
